RuneScape is a fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) released in January 2001. The game has approximately 10 million active accounts, and over 130 million registered accounts(2009), and is recognised by the Guinness World Records as the world's most popular free MMORPG.
RuneScape takes place in the world of Gielinor, a medieval fantasy realm divided into different kingdoms, regions, and cities. Players can travel throughout Gielinor on foot, through use of magical teleportation spells and devices, and via numerous other methods, such as charter ships. Each region offers different types of monsters, resources, and quests to challenge players.
Players are represented in the game with customisable avatars. RuneScape does not follow a linear storyline; rather, players set their own goals and objectives. Players can choose to fight non-player character (NPC) monsters, complete quests, or increase their experience in the available skills. My story

I started my MMORPG gaming experience with runescape. It was in July 2003, I remember it so well because i had just come back from the store with a big ice cold cola slush. It was hard to give my character a name, but at the end i decided to choose slusj. It was ment to be slush, but since I only was in third grade then i had no idea I wrote wrong.
Now I was logged in and ready to start my adventure in the world of Runescape. On the tutorial island i made myself a handsome man and went down the hill to get my first task. With no English experience it was hard to figure out what to do, but thanks to the big blinking yellow arrows i figured out how to cut a tree and light it to a fire.
After some experimenting and frustration over not enough blinking arrows I came to the combat training field. I dont remember the exact amount of time I sat there killing rats, but i was 3 in attack, strength, defence and prayer when i understood you culdnt get higher than 3 in the tutorial island so I moved on.
More skills was presented and I used alot of time on each and all possible spells was 3 when I got out of the tutorial island. After enjoying to kill chickens with some runes that was the first thing I did, when i was out of runes the chicken killing continued with a longsword and wood buckle.
By the time I discovered World of Warcraft Slusj was combat level 63 with many high level profitable professions (mining, smithing, woodcutting etc.), he had been hacked 3 times and returned to me everytime. One of the hackers managed to get it banned, but after a looooong letter to Jagex i managed to get it back and today he still exists, but is not being played on.

i didnt really like RS cause of the lag it had back then and i still dont play it now cause it gets very boring

Yeh, I agree, even though I used to play it, i'm now enemies with it. However the graphics has got better

The like pajas2 said its a browser game and it was made greatly - it makes you wonder if the forum was about Aoin and Runescape if Runescape went retail...

I played Runescape when i was 11 i played it for about 2 years it was "The Game"^^
but now i come to realize that i wasted my life on it. It has pointless pvp you dont need skills to click a spec at half a hp comon. But i did have fun on it but now adays i'd rather play a flash game then play Runescape ,Atm im playing Cabal unlimited and Zhyper Wow.
